ISPO 2018: Meet Icebreaker

If you think about wool and the outdoors, Icebreaker is what springs to mind. We are very happy to welcome this iconic Merino Wool brand from New Zealand on our GRV Showcase in hall A4 as part of the CSR Hub. Hear them sharing their longtime insights on radical transparency with you on Monday the 29th of January at 11.00 at our Guided Transparency Tour.

Radical Transparency

Icebreaker, the iconic natural performance outdoor clothing business, released its inaugural Transparency Report after 22 years in business. Titled: Made Different, the report focuses on people, nature and what it means to be a true sustainable business.  The report is designed to champion ‘radical transparency’ in the outdoor industry, build trust with consumers and champion nature-based supply chains.

Icebreaker was founded to offer a natural choice to adventurers and disrupt the outdoor industry towards sustainable solutions. We are constantly struck by the irony of the outdoor industry to promote petroleum based synthetic fibres such as polyester. Really? Plastic against your skin? We believe there is a better way and nature has the answers.

Banning Mulesing

In 1997, Icebreaker was the first company in the outdoor industry to establish long-term contracts with merino wool growers based on mutual concern for animal welfare and the environment. In 2008, it became the first company to ban the mulesing of sheep in the industry. Today, Icebreaker’s report represents a number of industry firsts around natural performance and radical traceability & transparency in supply chains. We are proud to be part of a global movement working on better ways to relate to each other and the natural world around us.

Thank you for joining us on this journey.
